The earliest record of Savannah State’s band program dates back to 1949, under the direction of J.J. Ballou, and was known as the Georgia State Industrial College Senior Band.
Throughout the years, the band has evolved and progressed based on the leadership and direction of program administration. The marching ensemble has achieved various honors in the HBCU musical arena, including two consecutive performances at the Honda Battle of the Bands showcase.
The band is now under the leadership of Mr. Marques D. Graham, who has over 15 years of experience directing HBCU bands. He is known amongst the HBCU band community as a prolific arranger/composer and for his ability to maximize the sound of small ensembles.
